The AWIM program has involved the school management, teachers and
students of Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School. The teachers were
trained to understand the methodology of the AWIM Programme after
which they implemented this programme in their school.
The students were divided into three member teams and each team had
to model the system, test them, rectify the fault and match the
required specifications. The students had an opportunity to discover
the wonders of physical science through team work. They had an
opportunity to learn about the benefits of an engineering career by
interaction with an industry volunteer of Ashok Leyland.

SAEINDIA, conducted “A World in Motion” (AWIM) Olympics 2008 on 18th
November, 2008 at Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School, Adyar,
Chennai. More than 15 schools were participated in the programme.
Really we proud, our students won the second place in time category.
We appreciate the worthy visit, arranged by SAEINDIA to Avadi.
Riding in the Arjun Tank was an unforgettable experience for the
teachers and it was an exposure to all our students. Most of the
students from various schools could exhibit their talent. We would
like to convey our thanks to SAEINDIA for giving opportunity to the
young engineers to expose their hidden talents. And also we request
you to arrange such programmes periodically and motivate the young
children.

Mrs. Jayanthi Rajagopal Teacher
At the outset let me thank you and the Ashok Leyland officials for
giving us an excellent opportunity to conduct your programme in our
school. The children of class VI enjoyed the 4 weeks of lively
sessions doing the models and creating their own models. Mr.
Srinivas of Leyland, Ms.Aruna from SAE India and Mr.Shailesh Mishra
of Leyland were present for the final session during which the
students presented their innovations. We were very happy by the
enthusiasm shown by the pupils and the way in which they interacted
in the process of learning.
Here, I must acknowledge the services of Mr. Shailesh. He did face
difficulties managing 230 children, but he was very patient and
mingled with them and helped them without hesitation when they
needed help.
We were 15 teachers managing the students. At the end of the
programme, we had a meeting with Mr.Shailesh and discussed the
outcome of the project. On the basis of our discussions, he has
already sent you a report. So, I am not repeating the same.
As this is the first time we are trying out such programme and as
there is always a scope for betterment, we assure you that we will
give in our best and prove better in future.
Looking forward for the next programme,

The students constructed a Jet toy by making the chassis, fitting
the axle and the wheel. They fitted a balloon motor and attached
nozzles of different sizes to make the toy more efficient. They also
made some modifications to make it more effective and also decorated
the toy to make it look more attractive. This was followed by
demonstration by different groups on 23/08/2009, 06/09/2008 13/09/08
and 20/09/2008. Throughout the workshop the students were guided by
a mechanical engineer Mr. Aravind from Ashok Leyland. The best
models were exhibited for other students in our school. |
